I do not adapt to CPAP treatment
To achieve maximum comfort and naturalness when following CPAP treatment, we must go through a period of adaptation.
This period can be more or less long and more or less uncomfortable depending on the patient.
Few are the lucky ones who adapt to sleep with CPAP without going through some uncomfortable situation, but from TerapiaCpap we assure you that once you have passed this period you will not be able to sleep without it and also, your day to day life will be noticeably better.
Read below our tips to improve your adaptation:
Little by little: for the treatment to be effective, experts recommend using the treatment for at least 5 hours during the night. If you are just starting therapy and the airflow is keeping you awake, start slowly – an hour’s sleep with the treatment for the first few days will be quite an achievement. With persistence and our help, you will overcome this challenge. Adaptation can be difficult, but we promise you, it doesn’t last forever.
Mask: The key to successful rapid adaptation is often the mask. We have been sleeping without it for many years and it is not easy to get used to it. Some TerapiaCpap patients who have dropped out of treatment due to lack of adaptation successfully resume therapy by changing the mask. Not everyone has the same physiognomy or the same needs when it comes to sleep.
Some of our patients who suffered from claustrophobia due to the mask have resumed treatment by trying the latest mask models with nasal pillows, which are much lighter and less bulky than their previous models. The facial hair also determines the mask to use, if you wear a beard or moustache ask one of our advisors and we will inform you which mask is suitable for your facial hair.
Use a humidifier: it prevents dryness in the respiratory tract and brings the air to your body temperature so that the sensation of flow is as natural as possible.
Do not abandon the treatment: Make an appointment with one of our specialists, we have the experience and we know that it can be a challenge but with patience and help you will improve your quality of life and avoid the degenerative process that sleep apnoea produces.
